Anthony Service Recognized as NEFC Offensive Player of the Week

Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y. native accounted for three touchdowns and 290 yards of total offense in 32-16 victory at Union on Saturday

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (September 19, 2016) – Junior quarterback Anthony Service (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) of the Western New England University football team has been named the New England Football Conference (NEFC) Offensive Player of the Week following his performance in Saturday's 32-16 victory at Union College.

Service accounted for three touchdowns and 290 yards of total offense as the Golden Bears improved to 3-0 heading into Saturday's NEFC opener against Curry. He completed 21-of-27 pass attempts (77.8%) for 266 yards and two touchdowns, connecting with 11 different receivers in the process. The junior also added 24 yards on the ground and a rushing score.

Through three games this season, Service is tied for the NEFC lead with seven passing touchdowns. He also ranks fourth in passing yards (624) and second in completion percentage (65.7%) while turning the ball over just once. The Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y. native earns NEFC Offensive Player of the Week honors for the first time in his career after landing on the conference's weekly honor roll in each of the first two weeks of the 2016 campaign.

Also receiving weekly recognition from the NEFC was junior defensive back Sam Olsson (Milford, Conn.), who earned a spot on the honor roll after making a team-high ten tackles in Saturday's win at Union.

Western New England will look to improve to 4-0 on Saturday at 1 p.m. when the Colonels visit Golden Bear Stadium in the NEFC opener for both programs.
