Service Named NEFC Co-Offensive Player of the Week Following Record-Breaking Performance

NEFC Release

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (September 26, 2016) –
Junior quarterback Anthony Service (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) of the Western New England University football team has been selected as the New England Football Conference (NEFC) Co-Offensive Player of the Week following his record-breaking performance in Saturday's 59-28 victory over Curry.

Service earns this honor from the NEFC for the second consecutive week after completing 24-of-32 pass attempts (75%) for a career-high 337 yards and a program record six touchdowns. Service connected with 11 different receivers, eight of which had multiple catches. Among his four first half touchdowns was a 73-yard strike to senior Mohamed Camara (New York, N.Y.) and an 80-yard connection with junior Mark Dietrich (Cheshire, Conn.).

Service shared NEFC Offensive Player of the Week honors with Salve Regina senior running back Sam Pascale, who rushed 21 times for 226 yards and four touchdowns in the Seahawks' 48-10 win over Coast Guard.

Through four games this season, Service has completed 70-of-102 pass attempts (68.6%) for 961 yards and 13 touchdowns, both of which lead the NEFC. The dual-threat quarterback has also rushed 45 times for 171 yards and two scores.

Also earning weekly recognition from the NEFC following the Golden Bears' homecoming victory were senior cornerback Obi Etuka (Middletown, Conn.) and freshman rover Kyle Apgar (Milton, Vt.), who both landed on the Honor Roll. Etuka tied Western New England's career interceptions record (16) with his second quarter pick, while Apgar finished with a team-high eight tackles.

Western New England (4-0, 1-0 NEFC) will be on the road this Saturday at Nichols, with opening kickoff scheduled for 1 p.m.
