SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (January 17, 2017) – The 2016 New England Football Conference (NEFC) champion Western New England University football team has placed 32 student-athletes on the NEFC's Academic All-Conference Team, the league announced today.

To qualify for the team, a student-athlete must have completed three semesters at the same institution and maintain a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.

Western New England's total of 32 honorees is tied for second in the NEFC with Salve Regina, and it marks the highest number of Academic All-Conference selections for the Golden Bears in the past ten seasons. MIT led the list of 193 student-athletes with 40 qualifiers.

Among Western New England's 32 selections are four players that also earned All-NEFC accolades, including senior Mohamed Camara (New York, N.Y.), junior Spencer Goodman (Haddon Heights, N.J.), and sophomores Kurtis Jolicoeur (Windham, N.H.) and Sean Stergas (Cambridge, Vt.).

The Golden Bears captured their second consecutive NEFC title last fall in the final year of the league's existence, before going on to win their first NCAA Tournament game with a 44-27 victory over Husson University on November 19.
