Cold Three Point Shooting Dooms Men's Basketball in 70-64 Loss at Worcester State

WORCESTER, Mass. (November 22, 2022)– The Western New England men's basketball team had a road game this evening at Worcester St. University. The Golden Bears fell to the Lancers after two halves of play 70-64 in non-conference action.

Records:

  • Western New England: 3-2
  • Worcester State university: 5-2

How It Happened: Five straight for the Worcester St. Lancers before the Golden Bears Jake Harrison put two on the scoreboard and Gavin Greene made it a one-point game on the free-throw line. The Lancers pushed their lead to seven points, 13-6, and after a few good runs, Tim Restall took it back to three with two on the foul line, then proceeded to let Worcester get back up by nine under the 15-minute mark. Harrison had a jumper and a foul shot, and the Lancers answered with a layup 21-13. There was a minute and a half of no scores either way and Restall finally broke the silence halfway through the first, and it was proceeded by a three knocked in by Worcester, back to a nine-point game. Two buckets from Greene and a layup from Restall made it a one-possession game 24-21 with 8:18 in the half. Another scoring break until the 5:36 mark due to some foul shots by Worcester, and they added a jumper, and two more on the foul line, nine-point lead. A great team effort and a three-pointer knocked in by Greene tied up the basketball game with a minute left. Greene took the first lead for the Golden Bears and Harrison made it a four-point lead. a layup in the last two seconds in the half by the Lancers made it a score of 38-36, Golden Bears.

Worcester tied it up on the second shot of the second half and took a five-point lead. Harrison laid in the first bucket for WNE of the half, and one more from Restall on the line, 43-41. They let Worcester hit yet another three and a layup, back to a three-possession game for the Golden Bears. Nate Kasper took WNE back behind by only three 13:51, 49-46, and the Lancers responded with a run that lasted three-minutes and gave them a double-digit lead, 60-46 a little over 10 minutes left in the game. The held their lead for a few plays, exchanging shots with WNE. The Golden Bears fought to comeback late in the half. They held the Lancers at 68 points until the final 22 seconds of the game from the 7:38. Kasper started the spirt for the GBears with a layup and a three-pointer, a few points from Harrison and it was now a four-point game in the final two minutes. The Golden Bears could not capitalize and missed a lot of free-throws that could have given them a lead in this half. The Lancers hit their foul shots and closed out on top 70-64 of WNE.

On The Court:

  • As a team, the Golden Bears shot 44.4 percent from the floor, 12.5 percent from the three, and 50.0 percent from the foul line while gathering 36 rebounds, 21 assists, six steals and three blocks.
  • The Lancers shot 36.8 percent from the hardwood, 28.0 percent from beyond the arc, and 68.4 percent from the free throw line while tallying 28 rebounds, 18 assists,11 steals, and six blocks
  • The Golden Bears were lead scorer was Gavin Greene who tallied 19 total points and five assists.  
  • Jake Harrison had a double-double on the night with 18 points and 13 rebounds, adding four assists and three blocks. Tim Restall put in 16 points for the Golden Bears as well.
