Gabby Lavinio Named ECAC First Team New England All-Star

ECAC Release

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (June 10, 2016) –
Junior shortstop Gabby Lavinio (Dalton, Mass.) of the Western New England University softball team has been named a first team New England Division III All-Star by the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC), the organization announced earlier this week.

Lavinio adds this honor to her impressive 2016 resume, which already includes National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-New England first team, Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Player of the Year, All-CCC first team and CoSIDA Academic All-District accolades.

The Dalton, Mass. native enjoyed a breakout campaign in 2016, batting .448 (4th in CCC) with 13 doubles (T-1st), seven home runs (T-2nd), and 30 RBI (3rd) during the regular season, leading Western New England to a 15-3 record in CCC play and the top seed in the conference tournament. She also ranked second in both on-base percentage (.515) and slugging percentage (.776) while drawing 11 walks and scoring 26 runs.

Lavinio had at least one hit in 28 of Western New England's 35 regular season contests, and recorded 19 multi-hit performances. She compiled five hits, including a double and a home run, to go with three RBI as the Golden Bears swept Smith on March 24, and also played a key role in Western New England's two wins at Salve Regina on April 9, going 4-for-7 with a double, a triple and three RBI.

The Golden Bears finished the 2016 campaign with an overall record of 23-18. Six student-athletes earned All-CCC recognition, and head coach Lori Mayhew repeated as CCC Coach of the Year.
