Golden Bears Roll to 3-0 Victory at Westfield State

Western New England improves to 5-1 over its last six matches

WESTFIELD, Mass. (October 13, 2016) – The Western New England University volleyball team rolled to a 3-0 (25-11, 25-16, 25-17) victory over Westfield State University this evening in non-conference action at the Woodward Center.

Top Performers
• Western New England junior middle hitter Carly Skibinski (Milford, N.J.) led a balanced Golden Bear attack with a match-high seven kills, four aces, three digs and two block assists.
• Senior setter Jenna Leuck (Dumont, N.J.) handed out 31 assists while also adding six digs and three kills.
• Junior libero Brianna Roath (Jackson, N.J.) paced the Western New England defense with 14 digs. 

• Westfield State sophomore Lizzie Taylor (Medfield, Mass.) finished with a team-high 24 digs and match-best six aces.

Match Review
• Western New England posted a match-high .200 hitting percentage in the opening set and used a 9-0 run midway through the frame to extend its advantage to 14 (22-8) en route to a 25-11 win.
• The Golden Bears turned in a similar run in the second set, reeling off 12 straight points to turn a 10-8 lead into a 22-8 cushion on their way to a 25-16 victory.
• With the third set tied 15-15, Western New England took the lead on a kill by Skibinski and didn't look back, closing out the frame with a 10-2 run to complete the sweep.  

Notes
• With the win, the Golden Bears improve to 7-5 in three-set matches this season.
• Westfield State hit just -.103 as a team, totaling ten kills with 19 attack errors.
• Leuck reached the 30-assist mark for the fourth straight match and 11th time this fall.
• Western New England is 5-1 over its last six contests following tonight's triumph.

Both teams will be back in action on Saturday, as Western New England (14-7) heads to Norton, Mass. for a tri-match with Wheaton College and Western Connecticut State University, and Westfield State (10-12) travels to Bridgewater State.
