Golden Bears Bounce Back with 3-1 Victory at UNE

Skibinski leads Western New England, hitting .345 with team-high 12 kills & career-high seven blocks

BIDDEFORD, Maine (October 22, 2016) – The Western New England University volleyball team got back on track with a 3-1 (26-24, 25-22, 20-25, 25-20) win over the University of New England this afternoon in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at Harold Alfond Forum.

Top Performers
• Junior middle hitter Carly Skibinski (Milford, N.J.) led the way for the Golden Bears, hitting .345 with a team-high 12 kills and career-high seven blocks (one solo).
• Senior setter Jenna Leuck (Dumont, N.J.) dished out 37 assists to go with a match-high 17 digs, three blocks and two kills.
• Freshman outside hitter Ashley Matthews (Salem, N.H.) compiled eight kills, 12 digs, three blocks and two aces.

• Senior outside hitter Erika Sawicki (Wilbraham, Mass.) paced the Nor'easters with match-highs in both kills (13) and digs (22).
• Junior setter Kristen Falcinelli (Silver Spring, Md.) posted a double-double with 45 assists and 20 digs.

Match Review
• Western New England survived a UNE run late in the opening set to claim a 26-24 win and take a 1-0 lead in the match.
• The Golden Bears utilized an 8-0 run late in the second frame to cut their deficit from nine (21-12) to one (21-20). After UNE scored the next point, Western New England closed out the set with a 5-0 run that featured two kills by Matthews.
• The Nor'easters stayed alive with a 25-20 win in the third set, as Western New England struggled with a -.100 hitting percentage in the frame.
• The Golden Bears bounced back in the fourth set, scoring the first four points and never trailing after that point. UNE got as close as one (21-20) late, before Western New England sealed the win with four straight points.  

Notes
• Western New England hit a match-best .282 with 16 kills and just five errors in 39 total attempts in the fourth set.
• Leuck reached the 30-assist mark for the eighth consecutive match and 15th time this season.
• The win snaps Western New England's third losing streak of the season.
