Gabby Lavinio Named CCC Player of the Week After Leading Golden Bears to 4-0 Record

CCC Athletes of the Week Release

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (March 28, 2016) -
Junior shortstop Gabby Lavinio (Dalton, Mass.) of the Western New England University softball team has been named the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Player of the Week, the league office announced this afternoon.

Lavinio earns this honor after posting impressive offensive numbers in a 4-0 week for the Golden Bears, as she hit .643 (9-for-14) with three home runs, two doubles, six runs scored and eight RBI. She also posted a 1.429 slugging percentage and recorded multiple hits in every contest while playing perfect defense.

Lavinio opened her week by going 5-for-8 with one double, one home run and three RBI as Western New England rallied to earn a pair of extra inning victories over Smith on Thursday, in the process helping head coach Lori Mayhew pick up her 500th career victory.

She followed that up with a 4-for-6 effort in Saturday's doubleheader at Nichols, belting two more home runs and recording five RBI as the Golden Bears opened CCC play with two wins over the Bison.

Through 14 games this season, Lavinio leads the CCC with a .521 (25-for-48) batting average, five home runs and 15 RBI.

Western New England (7-7, 2-0 CCC) will look to keep rolling tomorrow afternoon, as the Golden Bears host Westfield State in a non-conference doubleheader at 3 p.m. Â
