Western New England Erupts Offensively in 5-0 Victory Over Maine-Presque Isle

Golden Bears score all five goals in second half, outshooting Owls 44-1 overall

BANGOR, Me. (September 3, 2016) – The Western New England University women's soccer team turned in a dominant offensive performance, defeating the University of Maine at Presque Isle 5-0 this afternoon on the first day of the 12th Annual Husson Classic.

Top Performers
Junior forward Iman Shehemi (Feeding Hills, Mass.) scored the first two goals of her career, with both coming late in the second half.
Senior defender Katelyn Cummings (Feeding Hills, Mass.) helped set up a pair of Western New England goals.
 Junior defender Maddie Morgan opened the scoring in the 59th minute and added an assist on the Golden Bears' final goal. 

Game Review
Western New England did not lack scoring opportunities in the first half, as the Golden Bears put ten of their 22 shots on goal and took five corner kicks, but they were unable to break through in the opening 45 minutes.
Junior defender Maddie Morgan (Upton, Mass.) gave Western New England a 1-0 lead 13 minutes into the second half on a feed from Labrie, and senior forward Samantha Emmert (Hyde Park, N.Y.) made it 2-0 just 1:17 later with the help of Cummings' first assist.
Western New England kept attacking, as junior Danielle Dixon (Plainville, Conn.) found the back of the net in the 69th minute, and Shehemi followed with her first of two goals 4:21 later.
The Golden Bears capped the scoring in the 84th minute when freshman Gabrielle Delos (Chepachet, R.I.) set up Shehemi for her second goal of the game.

Notes
Western New England's victory marks the first career win for head coach Kristin Hensinger. Hensinger, a 2007 Western New England graduate and 2015 Downes Athletics Hall of Fame inductee, had served as an assistant coach on Ron Dias' staff since 2007.
The Golden Bears held a 44-1 advantage in shots, and took nine corner kicks to the Owls' one.
Sophomore goalkeeper Marissa Veilleux (Newington, Conn.) played the first 87:46 in net and did not face a shot.

Western New England (1-1) will be right back in action tomorrow morning at 11 a.m. against St. Joseph's College (Maine), while Maine-Presque Isle will take on host Husson at 1 p.m.
