Labrie’s First Half Goal Lifts Golden Bears to 1-0 Victory over Saint Joseph’s

BANGOR, Maine (September 4, 2016) – The Western New England University women's soccer team completed a 2-0 weekend at the 12th Annual Husson Classic this afternoon with a 1-0 victory over Saint Joseph's College of Maine in non-conference action at Boucher Field.

Top Performers
Senior forward Brooke Labrie (Granby, Mass.) provided all the offense Western New England would need with her unassisted goal in the 37th minute. Labrie, who also scored in the Golden Bears' season-opener last Thursday and recorded an assist yesterday, now leads the team with five points.
Sophomore goalkeeper Marissa Veilleux (Newington, Conn.) registered her second consecutive shutout, stopping all five of the shots that she faced.

Senior Desiree Parent (Westborough, Mass.) and sophomore Emily Thornton (Westbrook, Maine) accounted for more than half of the Monks' seven shots with two each.

Game Review
Labrie scored the only goal of the contest at the 36:48 mark of the first half.
Western New England led at halftime despite being outshot by a 4-3 margin.
Veilleux came up with a pair of big saves in the 71st and 72nd minutes, respectively, to preserve Western New England's second victory of the weekend.

Notes
The Golden Bears finished with a 10-7 advantage in shots after outshooting the Monks 7-3 over the final 45 minutes of action.
Western New England, which did not record consecutive shutouts last fall, has done so just three matches into the 2016 campaign. The last time the Golden Bears turned in back to back clean sheets was September 27-30, 2014.
Labrie has 17 points (seven goals, three assists) in 19 games since joining the Western New England women's soccer program.
