Golden Bears Blanked By University of New England in CCC Opener, 3-0

Western New England returns to action tomorrow against Castleton

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (September 10, 2016) – The Western New England University women's soccer team opened Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play with a 3-0 setback to the University of New England this afternoon at Suprenant Field.

Top Performers
• Western New England freshman goalkeeper Alexandra Lemekha (Stamford, Conn.) made her collegiate debut, stopping seven shots and surrendering just one goal in 53:49 minutes.

• University of New England senior forward Jessica Meader (Scarborough, Maine) was among the three different goal scorers for the Nor'easters, netting the opener that would prove to be the difference in the contest.

Game Review
• After Meader gave the Nor'easters an early lead with her fifth minute goal, UNE doubled its advantage in the 37th minute when freshman Jessie Maywalt (Wall, N.J.) sent a cross into the box and senior Devon Wolfenden (East Longmeadow, Mass.) finished the play with her first tally of the season.
• Freshman Katie Beaudoin (Coventry, R.I.) capped the scoring in the 51st minute with her first collegiate goal.

Notes
• UNE outshot Western New England by an 18-5 margin and held a 4-3 edge in corner kicks.
