Big Second Half Sends Wentworth to 3-0 Win over Western New England

Leopards score all three goals over final 30:03 of regulation 

BOSTON, Mass. (October 1, 2016) –
The Wentworth Institute of Technology women's soccer team snapped a scoreless tie with three second half goals on its way to a 3-0 victory over Western New England University this afternoon in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at Sweeney Field.

Top Performers
• Graduate forward Emma Norden (Belchertown, Mass.), junior midfielder Christina Delude (Belchertown, Mass.), sophomore defender Erin Grimes (Attleboro, Mass.) and freshman defender Amanda Gagnon (Newington, Conn.) recorded one shot on goal each for the Golden Bears.

• Junior forward Emily Richard (Fremont, N.H.) had a hand in all three of Wentworth's goals, scoring one and assiting on the other two. 

Match Review
• After a scoreless opening half that saw Wentworth outshoot the Golden Bears by an 8-5 margin, Richard netted the goal that would stand as the game-winner just under 15 minutes into the second half. The junior fired a long shot from the right side into the upper left corner of the net, beating Western New England sophomore goalkeeper Marissa Veilleux (Newington, Conn.).  
• The Leopards doubled their lead at the 71:13 mark, as senior midfielder Amanda Weinberger (Colchester, Conn.) scored on a feed from classmate Mykaela Scarpace (Marlborough, Conn.) following a Wentworth corner kick.
• Senior Morgan Miller (Schenectady, N.Y.) capped the scoring in the 78th minute on another corner kick play, as she headed home the service from Richard to make it 3-0 in favor of the Leopards.
• Western New England nearly got one goal back with just under 12 minutes remaining in the contest when Norden put a header on target, but Wentworth sophomore goalkeeper Christie Fleming (Braintree, Mass.) made a diving stop to preserve the shutout.

Notes
• Fleming saved all three Western New England shots that were put on goal, earning her first shutout of the season. Veilleux finished with seven saves for the Golden Bears, including four in the first half.  
• Wentworth took five corner kicks in the second half, two of which resulted in goals.
• Delude and senior forward Brooke Labrie (Granby, Mass.) led Western New England with two shots each.

Both teams return to action on Wednesday, as Western New England (4-7-1, 2-2 CCC) will be on the road at MCLA for the second of four straight away matches, and Wentworth (7-2-2, 3-0-1 CCC) remains at home to host UMass Boston.
