Golden Bears' season comes to a close at 6-11-3
BOSTON, Mass. (October 29, 2016) – The Western New England University women's soccer team was eliminated from the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Tournament with a 3-0 loss to the Wentworth Institute of Technology in the quarterfinal round this afternoon at Sweeney Field.
Top Performers
• Junior midfielder Christina Delude (Belchertown, Mass.) accounted for two of Western New England's seven shots.
• Wentworth junior forward Ali Leach (Stowe, Vt.) had a hand in two of the Leopards' goals, scoring one herself and assisting on another.
Match Review
• Wentworth opened the scoring 9:22 into the contest, as senior defender Mary Pastorelli (Whitesboro, N.Y.) connected with senior midfielder Amanda Weinberger (Colchester, Conn.) on a long through ball down the center of the field and Weinberger proceeded to beat Western New England sophomore goalkeeper Marissa Veilleux (Newington, Conn.) with a shot to the lower left corner of the net.
• The Leopards maintained their one-goal lead for the remainder of the half, before doubling their advantage just 53 seconds into the second half on Leach's third goal of the season.
• Leach then set up sophomore forward Madyson Reno (Simi Valley, Calif.) for Wentworth's third goal as the home team capped the scoring less than two minutes later at the 47:36 mark.
Notes
• Western New England held a 4-3 edge in corner kicks, but the Golden Bears were outshot by a 20-7 margin.
• Western New England freshman goalkeeper Alexandra Lemekha (Stamford, Conn.) came on for the final 21:17 and made four saves.
