Three from Women’s Soccer Earn NEWISA All-New England Accolades

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (January 20, 2023) – Western New England women’s soccer’s Allison Bruehwiler, Summer Hathaway and Alison VanVolkenBurg were named to the New England Women’s Intercollegiate Soccer Association’s All-New England Team, as announced by the organization today.  The team, which was voted on by NCAA Division III coaches from colleges and universities in New England, is comprised of a First Team, Second Team, and a Third Team. The First Team and Second Team consist of four forwards, four midfielders, four defenders and a goalkeeper. The Third Team was expanded to account for ties in voting.

(December 1, 2022) – Western New England women’s soccer’s Allison Burehwiler, Summer Hathaway, and Samantha Vitka picked up end of the year awards by the United Soccer Coaches Association and New England Women’s Intercollegiate Soccer Association (NEWISA) as announced by the two respective organizations on Thursday afternoon.

Dallas, Pennsylvania (November 13, 2022) - After their win over York University in the first NCAA tournament round, the Golden Bears returned to Misericordia University on early Sunday evening for a matchup with the top-seeded Misericordia Cougars. The Cougars won their first game relatively easily by a score of 6-0. With both teams earning a shutout win in the first round, this second-round matchup would be a battle.

DALLAS, Pa. (November 12, 2022) - The Western New England women's soccer team pulled out a 2-0 victory on Saturday night over the York College (Pa.) Spartans, secruing their first ever NCAA Tournament win in program history and becomes the first CCC team to win a NCAA game since 2016. Isabella Montalvo and Alison VanVolkenBurg scored the two goals for Western New England that sealed the deal in the victory.

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (November 11, 2022) – The Western New England women’s soccer team heads to Misericordia University, who will host the first and second round games of the NCAA Division III Tournament, where Western New England will take on the Spartans of York College on Saturday night. This will be the first ever contest between the two schools.

(November 7, 2022) – The Western New England women’s soccer team will take on York College of Pennsylvania in the Division III NCAA Tournament in the opening round, as announced by the NCAA in the bracket unveiling on Monday afternoon. The Golden Bears will travel to Misericordia University, who will host the four team pod. Marywood University will match up wih Misericordia in the opening round, with the two winners, between Misericordia and Marywood and WNE and York to play in the second round game.

Springfield, Mass. (November 5, 2022) - Fresh off a win on penalty kicks in the semifinals, the Golden Bears hosted the UNE Nor’easters in the CCC championship game. UNE earned their place in the championship game by beating Curry College at home by a score of 3-0. They had not let up a goal going into this championship matchup.

Springfield, Mass. (November 1, 2022) - The Golden Bears played host to the Roger Williams University Hawks in the CCC semifinals. After defeating Wentworth 3-0, WNE looked to keep rolling in the CCC playoffs. The Hawks got to the semifinals after defeating Gordon College at home 2-0. This game would be the second matchup between the Hawks and Golden Bears this year, with the first matchup seeing the Hawks take the win 1-0. The Golden Bears were hungry for redemption.

Already locked into the number one seed in the CCC playoffs, WNE hosted the Wentworth Institute of Technology Leopards. The Leopards were coming off a big win against Endicott College on Saturday, and a win would see them be placed as the number seven seed in the playoffs.
