Olivia Lathrop & Carly Skibinski Named to All-CCC Volleyball Team

CCC Volleyball All-Conference Release

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (November 4, 2015) -
Senior Olivia Lathrop (Farmington, Conn.) and sophomore Carly Skibinski (Milford, N.J.) from the Western New England University volleyball team have both earned All-Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) honors for their efforts this season, the league office announced yesterday.

Lathrop collects her second consecutive selection to the All-CCC first team since joining the Western New England volleyball program last fall, while Skibinski, who earned honorable mention accolades as a freshman in 2014, lands on the second team this season. The two middle hitters led the Golden Bears to a 13-12 record during the regular season (5-3 CCC) and the No. 4 seed in the CCC Championship, before combining for 20 kills, seven digs and six blocks last night as Western New England defeated fifth-seeded Salve Regina University, 3-2, in the quarterfinals.

Lathrop currently ranks third in the CCC in hitting percentage (.281) and fifth in kills (252), including 2.60 per set. The senior, who transferred from Division II Southern Connecticut State University following her sophomore season, also averages 0.54 blocks and 0.47 digs/set.

She has recorded 10+ kills in 11 of Western New England's 26 matches, including totals of 19 and 18 against Eastern Connecticut State (9/29) and Salve Regina (9/24), respectively. Defensively, Lathrop posted season-highs of six digs against the Seahawks, and five blocks on two occasions (9/19 vs. Clark, 10/2 vs. Westfield State). She has recorded at least two blocks in six consecutive matches and 17 times overall this fall.

After enjoying a successful rookie campaign last season, Skibinski emerged as one of the top players in the CCC as a sophomore. She ranks in the top-10 in the conference in kills/set (2.53, 8th), hitting percentage (.232, 7th) and blocks/set (0.61, 7th), while totaling 3.2 points/set, good for 5th in the CCC.

Skibinski is in the midst of her most productive stretch of the season, as she has totaled 10+ kills and 2+ blocks in four straight matches, all of which have been Western New England victories. The sophomore recorded 10+ kills 13 times this season overall, including a career-best 18-kill performance (on a .325 hitting percentage) in the Golden Bears' win at Salve Regina in September.

Skibinski posted a season-high of five blocks in wins over Coast Guard (9/19) and the University of New England (9/26), while also finishing with four blocks on five other occasions. Two of her top performances this season came in victories against St. Lawrence (10/17) and Eastern Nazarene (10/21), as she hit .360 with 14 kills, four blocks and three digs against the Saints before hitting a season-high .833 with ten kills and no errors to go with three block assists four days later against the Lions.

Western New England will be on the road tomorrow night for the CCC Championship semifinals at top-seeded Roger Williams University in Bristol, R.I.
