Three Golden Bears Sit Fifth in Region 1 NCWWC Rankings

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (January 4, 2023) – The Western New England women's wrestling team will begin the New Year with three wrestlers in the top ten rankings of their respective weight classes as announced by the National Collegiate Women's Wrestling Championship.

At the 123 lb. weight class, Victoria Orender sits fifth in the rankings. Orender has collected four wins on the season. The Byfield, Massachusetts native collected her first win of her collegiate career on November 6, 2022, at the ESU Open, defeating Gannon University's Zoe Gaetjens. Orender will be back on the mat on Saturday, January 7 at 1:00 pm when the Golden Bears welcome MIT to Springfield for WNE's second home match of the season. 

Sabrina Sedor ranks fifth in the 130 lb. weight class. Sedor picked up her first win via fall in her collegiate career against Sacred Heart University's Ayeska Zanetti. Sedor has won three matches for WNE on the season. 

Kendall Branchaud was placed fifth in the 136 lb. weight class, wrapping up the rankings for the Golden Bears in the first rankings of the New Year. Branchaud was the first Golden Bears to win a collegiate match for Western New England, taking down East Stroudsburg University's Grace Kaczanowski. Branchaud leads Western New England with eight wins in 11 matches this season. 

Western New England women's wrestling begins their busy January schedule on Saturday, January 7 at 1:00 pm when MIT visits Springfield. WNE will host its final home match of the season on Wednesday, January 11 at 4:00 pm when Delaware Valley University pays a visit to the Alumni Healthful Living Center. WNE will then hit the road to wrap up January, making stops to both Ursinus College and Elmira College.
