Women’s Wrestling Captures First Ever Dual Meet Victory over Delaware Valley University

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (January 11, 2023) – The Western New England women's wrestling team picked up their first ever dual match victory on Wednesday evening, defeating the Aggies of Delaware Valley University by a final score of 30-9 from the Alumni Healthful Living Center. 

How it Happened:
Victoria Orender collected a victory via forfeit in the 116 lb. weight class to get Western New England an early lead in the match. The Golden Bears notched four total forfeit victories in the match, grabbing 20 points from those forfeits.

Kendall Branchaud would collect Western New England's first victory in match play in the 143 lb. weight class when Branchaud took down Delaware Valley's Olivia Kinder via fall to continue Western New England's winning ways. Samantha Groncki would put together an impressive showing in the 155 lb. weight class, taking down the Aggies' Gorgeous Lee via fall. 

Western New England would take the 30-9 victory, which marked the first ever victory for the Golden Bears women's wrestling team in their program history. 

Inside the Ring:

• Victoria Orender, Olivia Amaral, Greta Hobbs and Lillyann McDorman all collected forfeit wins for the Golden Bears. 
• Kendall Branchaud and Samantha Groncki both would win via fall in their respective matches. 
• Delaware Valley drops to 0-3 in dual action this season.
