Women’s Wrestling Falls Just Short at Elmira College

ELMIRA, N.Y. (January 22, 2023) – The Western New England women's wrestling team fell short on Sunday afternoon to the hosting Soaring Eagles of Elmira College, falling 27-22. 

How it Happened:

WNE would not compete in the 101 and 109 lb. weight classes, forfeiting five points each to the Soaring Eagles. The Golden Bears competed in the 116 lb. weight class as Victoria Orender would pick up the first point of the match for the Golden Bears, though would fall 16-8 via decision to Abby Duke, giving the Soaring Eagles three additional points in the match, taking a 13-1 lead.

At the 123 lb. weight class, WNE's Olivia Amaral would collect a forfeit victory. The 130 lb. weight class would also go WNE's way, as Sabrina Sador would also win via forfeit, moving the score to 13-10 in favor of the Soaring Eagles. In the 136 lb. weight class, Kendall Branchaud would fall 18-6 via TF to Elmira's Gabby Bradigan as the Soaring Eagles took a five-point lead in the match, 17-12. 

Greta Hobbs took a forfeit victory in the 143 lb. weight class, though two forfeits from the Golden Bears in the 155 lb. weight class and 170 lb. weight class would seal the deal for the Soaring Eagles. Lillyann McDorman would grab a forfeit victory in the 191 lb. weight class, as Western New England would fall 27-22 to the Soaring Eagles on Sunday afternoon.
