Kyle Gallo was named head coach of the Western New England University men's golf team on August 15, 2018.

Gallo comes to Western New England after spending the previous three seasons as head men’s golf coach at his alma mater, Division I Central Connecticut State University.

Last year, Gallo was selected as the Northeast Conference (NEC) Coach of the Year after leading the Blue Devils to their first NEC title in over a decade. Central Connecticut discontinued its men’s golf program at the conclusion of the 2017-18 season.

“We are thrilled to have Kyle join the Golden Bear ranks,” Director of Athletics Matt LaBranche said. “He has a tremendous passion for the game of golf, but more importantly, he brings a sincere dedication to the overall development of student-athletes. Kyle has a proven track record as an intercollegiate coach, and I am confident that he will continue to build on the recent success of our golf program.”

A 1998 graduate of CCSU, Gallo was a three-time All-New England selection for the Blue Devils. He also spent one season at the University of Texas El Paso, garnering first team All-Western Athletic Conference accolades.

“I want to thank Matt and the athletic department at Western New England for welcoming me aboard,” Gallo said. “I’m very excited to get started. This is a great opportunity for myself, and ultimately an opportunity to work with student-athletes here towards achieving their individual goals and our team goals.”

Gallo turned professional in 1998 and enjoyed a successful career that included four Connecticut Open Championships in addition to numerous other tournament titles across New England. In 2005 and ’06, he spent time on the Nationwide (now Web.com) Tour, which serves as the development tour for the PGA Tour.

A native of Kensington, Conn., Gallo is a member of the Berlin High School Athletic Hall of Fame. He was a three-time All-State and two-time All-New England selection during his high school career.

Gallo and his wife Megan Chasse reside in Manchester, Conn.

Western New England, which captured its fourth Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) title last spring in Bill Downes’ final season as head coach, opens the 2018 campaign at Trinity College’s Bill Detrick Invitational September 8-9.
