Student-Athlete Advisory Committee

What is SAAC?

SAAC stands for Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.  It is a student-athlete leadership group comprised of student-athlete leaders from all 20 varsity athletics teams.  The committee serves as a place for student-athletes to have their voices heard and to contribute to the comprehensive excellence of WNE Athletics.

2020-21 SAAC Executive Board:

  • Brendan O’Connell – President
  • Madison Murabito – Vice President
  • Tommy Thayer
  • Liam Mooney
  • Liz Mazza
  • Sean McCusker

Brendan O’Connell currently serves as Vice President on the Commonwealth Coast Conference Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. Madison Murabito and Liz Mazza serve as CCC SAAC Representatives. Arcel Kabongo Ngoy and Michael Raymond are past NCAA National SAAC Representatives.

Fall 2020 SAAC activities:

  • Worked with Student Senate to organize a campus wide Black Lives Matter Rally
  • Participated in the NCAA Diversity and Inclusion Social Media Campaign
  • Social Justice Committee, Liam Mooney Chair
  • Participated in the Get-Out-To-Vote Campaign on campus and with the CCC
  • Collected over 1,000 non-perishable food items that were donated to local shelters and the Bear Necessities food pantry on campus

As student-athlete leaders at Western New England University, we pledge to prioritize all student-athlete needs, aspirations, and overall development. It is our mission to lead by example and empower our fellow student-athletes as trustworthy and accountable citizens, scholars, athletes, and leaders. Our goal is to inspire the highest level of integrity in academics, athletics, service, and in life. Our mission is to foster inclusivity and respect between and among teammates, coaches, administrators, fans, opponents, facilities, officials, and our entire community. We strive to leave a legacy of mentorship and excellence throughout the entire WNE athletics department.
