WNE Football Announces 2023 Schedule, Begin at Home September 2

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (July 17, 2023) – The Western New England football team has unveiled their 2023 schedule, comprising of ten games during the 2023 season, five on the road and five from Golden Bear Stadium. 

WNE will begin their fall schedule as they have done for the past nine seasons, playing in the Pynchon SAW Game against cross-town rival Springfield College. The Pride bested WNE a season ago, though WNE leads the all-time series with five wins in nine attempts over the Pride. The season opener will take place on Saturday, September 2 at 1:00 PM from Golden Bear Stadium. 

From there, Western New England will play for the President's Cup when they travel to Westfield State University on Friday, September 8 to play under the Friday night lights of Alumni Field. Western New England will look to earn their ninth consecutive victory over the hosting Owls. The Golden Bears have allowed just 99 points to the Owls in their last eight meetings while the WNE offense has poured on the points against Westfield State, scoring 314 total points. The blue and gold will then play one of three new opponents for the 2023 season, hosting St. Lawrence University on Saturday, September 16 from Golden Bear Stadium. Western New England took the only matchup against the Saints back in 2017, winning 27-24 in overtime. Saint Lawrence finished the season with a 4-6 record in 2022. 

The Golden Bears will then take on Susquehanna University for the first time in the program's history on September 23 at 1:00 pm from Selinsgrove, Pa. The River Hawks swept their 2022 regular season schedule a season ago, including going a perfect 9-0 in Centennial Conference play before bowing out in the first round of the NCAA National Championships First Round, finishing the season with a 10-1 record.  WNE will then return home to take on Anna Maria College, their third and final new opponent for the 2023 schedule. The Golden Bears are 1-0 against Anna Maria all-time, defeating the AMCATs 59-7 back in 2018. Anna Maria finished the 2022 season with a 5-4 record, winning their final two games of the season. 
Western New England will open CCC play on the road, traveling to Endicott College on Saturday, October 14 at 12:00 pm. WNE and Endicott have battled 18 times since the 2004 season, seeing an even split in wins, both teams taking nine victories. Endicott has taken the last two meetings from WNE, including a close 26-21 win a season ago. WNE will then entertain Husson University on Saturday, October 21 for Homecoming Weekend at WNE. The Golden Bears are an impressive 5-1 all-time against the Eagles, including a perfect 4-0 at Golden Bear Stadium. The month of October will wrap up for Western New England on the road where WNE will look to remain perfect all-time against the University of New England, having won all four games all-time. 

The Golden Bears will play their final two games of the 2023 regular season schedule in November, hosting Nichols College (November 4) before wrapping up at Curry College (November 11). WNE is 17-1 against the Bison since the 2004 season, having won their last 15 matchups. The Golden Bears are 10-8 against Curry College since 2004, though have won their last seven against the Colonels.
