Men’s Ice Hockey Shutout Against No. 14 Endicott

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (November 12, 2022) – The Western New England men's ice hockey team struggled to find their offensive game on Saturday night, being shut out by 14th ranked Endicott College at the Olympia Ice Center by a final score of 6-0. 

Records:

  • Western New England: 1-5, 0-4 CCC
  • #14 Endicott College: 5-1, 4-0 CCC

How it Happened:

The Golden Bears put together a strong defensive first period, holding Endicott off the scoreboard, though were unable to find the back of the net themselves, as the score remained 0-0 after 20 minutes of play. Endicott outshot Western New England 15-7 in the opening period, though GK Colten Lancaster stopped all 15 shots he faced. 

Endicott's goal scoring came quick in the second period as Zach Mazur would opening the scoring for Endicott, on assists from Kevin Craig and Eric Johansson to give the Gulls a 1-0 lead. Five minutes later Endicott was back on the scoreboard when Ryan Willett found twine on assist from Derek Contessa and Matt Giroux to get Endicott a 2-0 lead. Just 36 seconds later, Andrew Kurapov tallied another Endicott goal with assists to Eric Johansson and Primo Self to get Endicott a quick 3-0 lead heading into the final 20 minutes of play. 

Endicott would grab another three goals in the final period of play with Connor Amsley, Mitch Shaheen, and Jackson Sterett collecting goal for the goals to coast past Western New England by a final score of 6-0. 

Inside the Numbers:

  • WNE was 0-7 on the powerplay in the loss, unable to take advantage of their chances.
  • Colten Lancaster made 33 saves for WNE. The Golden Bears goalkeeper has 170 saves in five games played this season. 
  • Western New England was outshot 39-19 in the game, coming away with four shots in the third period. 
  • The Gulls outscored WNE 12-1 in the two game series over the weekend.
