Western New England Suffers 99-70 Loss at Gordon

Tavitian finishes one rebound shy of double-double with 13 points & 9 boards

WENHAM, Mass. (December 4, 2018) – The Western New England University men's basketball team suffered a 99-70 loss to Gordon College on Tuesday evening in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at the Bennett Center.

Top Performers
Western New England sophomore forward Zachary Tavitian (Milford, Conn.) finished one rebound shy of a double-double with a team-high 13 points and nine rebounds.

Freshman forward Kenny Flynn (Dudley, Mass.) made an impact in just nine minutes off the bench with ten points on 5-of-6 shooting.

Gordon junior guard Eric Demers (Acushnet, Mass.) paced the Fighting Scots with a game-high 22 points, five rebounds, two assists, two steals and two blocks.

Senior forward Garrisson Duvivier (Brockton, Mass.) posted a double-double with 20 points and 12 rebounds, while classmate Noah Szilagyi (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) also turned in a 20-point effort.

Game Review
Western New England fell into a 17-2 hole over the first seven minutes of the contest, but the Golden Bears fought their way back into the game, using six three-pointers to get to within one (25-24) with 7:08 remaining in the first half.

Gordon was able to stretch its lead back to eight (39-31) following a Duvivier layup five minutes later. Two layups by Western New England senior Mikey Pettway (Bridgeport, Conn.) in the final minute of the half cut the Golden Bears' deficit to three (41-38) at the break.

The Fighting Scots took control of the game with a 17-0 run to start the second half, as the home team expanded its cushion to 20 (58-38) five minutes into the frame.

Western New England answered with four straight points to make it a 16-point game, but the Golden Bears would get no closer.

Gordon scored the next nine points and continued to pull away down the stretch as the Fighting Scots cruised to the win.

• Gordon shot 60% from the field, 53.3% from three-point range and 83.3% from the free throw line. Western New England posted clips of 35.1%, 26.5% and 75%.
• The Fighting Scots outrebounded the Golden Bears 41-27.
