Pettway named to first team, McGuire lands on third team

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (February 18, 2019) – Senior guard Mikey Pettway (Bridgeport, Conn.) and junior guard Mike McGuire (Garden City, N.Y.) of the Western New England University men's basketball team were both recognized when the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) announced its major award winners and All-CCC teams on Monday afternoon.

Pettway was named to the first team, while McGuire garnered third team accolades.

Pettway is now a three-time All-CCC honoree after collecting third team honors as a sophomore in 2016-17 and second team recognition as a junior last season.

The Bridgeport, Conn. native averaged 20.6 points, 4.9 assists and 4.0 rebounds per game in 22 regular season contests (18 starts) this season. Pettway leads the CCC in assists per game, ranks fourth in scoring, sixth in assist/turnover ratio (1.9) and tenth in free throw shooting (77.9%).

He scored in double-figures in 20 of 22 games during the regular season with ten 20+ point performances, including a career-high 39-point effort in Western New England's 71-68 victory over Emmanuel on November 10. Pettway also recorded 5+ assists on 11 occasions and had 5+ rebounds ten times.

The finance major will graduate as one of the top players in program history as he currently ranks second all-time in assists (473) and fourth in scoring (1661).

McGuire earns All-Conference honors for the first time with his selection to the third team. The junior enjoyed a career year with averages of 13.0 points, 3.8 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game, all career-highs. He also shot career-best marks from the field (46.7%), beyond the arc (45.2%) and the free throw line (94.1%).

McGuire was among the elite long-range shooters in the CCC this season as his three-point field goal percentage ranked fourth in the league. The Garden City, N.Y. native also ranked third in assist/turnover ratio (2.5), ninth in assists per game and 15th in scoring.

He scored in double figures in 19 of 25 games during the regular season, including 13 of the past 14 contests. McGuire scored a season-high 20 points in Western New England's 81-72 win over Southern Maine at the Trinity Holiday Invitational on December 30.

Fifth-seeded Western New England (11-14, 8-8 CCC) will be on the road at fourth-seeded Endicott College (17-8, 10-6 CCC) in the quarterfinal round of the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Tournament on Tuesday night in Beverly, Mass.
