Western New England Pulls Away in Second Half En Route to 101-74 Victory at Curry

Five Golden Bears post double-figure scoring efforts

MILTON, Mass. (January 12, 2019) – The Western New England University men's basketball team used a dominant second half performance to pull away from Curry College and earn a 101-74 victory over the Colonels on Saturday afternoon in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at Katz Gymnasium.

Top Performers
Freshman guard Antonio Brancato (Fairfield, Conn.) paced Western New England's balanced offensive showing, as he scored a season-high 25 points on 9-of-15 shooting from the field and 5-of-7 from the free throw line.

Sophomore guard Alex Sikorski (Rocky Hill, Conn.) posted a double-double with 23 points and 11 rebounds, while juniors Mike McGuire (Garden City, N.Y.) and Tim Reilly (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) added 15 and 11 points, respectively.

Freshman Kenny Flynn (Dudley, Mass.) rounded out Western New England's five double-figure scorers with 14 points and five rebounds in 18 minutes off the bench.

Curry junior forward Jared Thorpe-Johnson (Dorchester, Mass.) led the Colonels with 19 points and eight rebounds.

Game Review
Western New England raced out to a 14-4 lead over the first five minutes of the contest, and the Golden Bears led by the same margin (22-12) following a Nick DeGennaro (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) layup at the 11:42 mark.

Curry used a pair of three-pointers to get to within four (24-20) just over two minutes later, and the Colonels eventually regained the lead (33-32) when senior guard Louis Stein (Mount Olive, N.J.) connected from beyond the arc with 4:34 left in the half.

The Golden Bears were able to stretch their advantage to eight (47-39) at the break, however, with the help of three-pointers by Brancato and Sikorski late in the frame.

Leading by the same margin (52-44) early in the second half, Western New England posted a 9-2 run to extend its cushion to 15 (59-44).

The Golden Bears continued to pull away down the stretch en route to their second CCC triumph of the season.

• Western New England shot 52.1 percent from the field and topped 100 points for the second time this season.
• The Golden Bears held a commanding 53-26 advantage on the glass.
