Burke Leads Men’s Golf to 19th in 2022 Duke Nelson Invitational

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. (September 11, 2022) – The Western New England men's golf team hit the links for the first time on the season at the Duke Nelson Invitational, hosted by Middlebury College at Ralph Myhre Golf Course, placing 19th in the 24-team tournament. 

How it Happened:
After sitting ties for 20th place after the first day of the tournament at a +46 as a team, all five Western New England golfers improved their day two score to lock in 19th place at the end of the two-day event. First year Jeremy Burke began his career with WNE by shooting a team best on both days of the event, collecting a 79 (+8) on day one, followed by three strokes less on day two, finishing with a 76 (+5), completing the event with a 155. Senior Ryne Salius improved by seven strokes on day two of the course, finishing with a 77 (+6) on day two, stroking a 161 for the Golden Bears.

WNE saw Ryan Schlehuber improve by two strokes on the second day of the Duke Nelson Invitational, collecting an overall score of 162 in the event, which landed him third on the Golden Bears and tied for 86th in the event. Dylan Fortunato finished with an overall score of 165 while Robert DeFeo came in two strokes above Fortunato, finishing the round at 167 strokes.
