Burke Leads Golden Bears to Ninth at Bill Detrick Invitational

HARTFORD, CONN. (April 16, 2023) – The Western New England men's golf team came put swinging in their spring season opener this weekend, playing at the Bill Detrick Invitational, hosted by Trinity (Conn.) University. The Golden Bears finished ninth of ten teams in the running, led by first year Jeremy Burke

How it Happened: (Day 1):

WNE completed day one in ninth place in the event after being led by Robert DeFeo who shot an 80 overall on the day. Jeremy Burke (82), Dylan Fortunato (83), Ryne Salus (86), and Ryan Schlehuber (87) all competed for Western New England on the day. 

How it Happened (Day 2): 

Both Jeremy Burke and Dylan Fortunato turned in 79's at the end of the day two, leading the Golden Bears. Burke finished the two-day event with 161 strokes, the lowest on WNE. Not far behind was Fortunato, who wrapped up the event with a 162 score. Robert DeFeo closed out day two with an 87, while Ryne Salius finished four strokes less than day one, at 82 while Ryan Schlehuber closed out with a team best six stroke improvement, finishing with an 81 on the day. 

Trinity College (Conn.) won the event shooting a 583 on the event.
