Nick Gamba Scores Six Goals as Men’s Lacrosse Takes down No. 10 Wesleyan

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. (March 7, 2020) – The Western New England University men's lacrosse defeated national number 10 Wesleyan, 13-10, in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon at Jackson Field.

Top Performers
Senior Nick Gamba (Oysterbay, N.Y.) led the Golden Bears with six goals and three assists. Sophomore Mike Bannon (Edmond, Okla.) scored three goals and provided one assist.

Senior Tom Martello (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) led the Cardinals with three goals and one assist.

Game Review
The Cardinals opened the scoring when junior Logan Geller (New York, N.Y.) scored an unassisted goal within the first minute of the game. The Golden Bears responded by scoring the next four goals to take a 2-1 lead. Senior John Shahpazian (New Providence, N.J.) scored two of the goals and assisted on another, while Gamba scored one and assisted on two.

Martello scored with ten minutes remaining in the first half to stop the Western New England scoring run. Gamba went on to score two more goals in a one minute span to push the Western New England lead to 6-2. After the Cardinals scored to make it 6-3, Gamba and Bannon both scored with under 30 seconds remaining in the half to give the Golden Bears an 8-3 halftime lead.

Western New England scored two of the first three goals of the third quarter to push their lead to 10-4. The Cardinals scored two straight goals to cut the lead to 10-6, before Gamba and junior Conor Tracy (Walpole, Mass.) each scored before the end of the third quarter to give the Golden Bears a 12-6 lead. Wesleyan scored four goals in the final quarter, but the strong first half gave the Golden Bears the edge.
