Men’s Lacrosse Tops Bates, 14-11

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (March 10, 2020) – The Western New England University men's lacrosse team defeated Bates, 14-11, on Tuesday evening in non-conference action at Golden Bear Stadium.

Top Performers
Junior Conor Tracy (Walpole, Mass.) led the Golden Bears with five goals. Junior Matt Greer (South Windsor, Conn.), Senior Nick Gamba (Oysterbay, N.Y.), and sophomore Noah Rust (Windham, N.H.) each scored two goals. Junior Kevin Faustich (Seymour, Conn.) had seven ground balls and three caused turnovers.

Senior Otis Klingbeil (Powell, Ohio) scored five goals for the Bobcats.

Game Review
The Golden Bears took a 2-0 lead in the first quarter after goals from Tracy and senior John Shahpazian (New Providence, N.J.). The Bobcats responded by scoring two goals to tie the game going into the second quarter. The Western New England offense exploded in the second quarter, outscoring Bates 9-1 in the quarter.

Tracy scored three goals in the second quarter for the Golden Bears, while Gamba and Rust each scored two. Freshman Brian Madden (Brookfield, Mass.) scored his first collegiate goal in the quarter. The Bobcats came out strong in the second half, scoring four goals in the third quarter to cut the lead down to 12-7 heading into the fourth quarter. A man-up goal from Klingbeil with 1:19 remaining cut the Golden Bear lead down to 13-11. Then Tracy went and scored an unassisted goal 0:38 remaining to secure the win for Western New England.

• Western New England had 47 ground balls.
• Junior Jack Seiter (Ridgewood, N.J.) won 18 face offs for the Golden Bears.
