Game Review

Trailing 6-5 in the opening set, the Golden Bears used a 7-2 run to claim a 12-8 lead, which forced a Suffolk timeout. The Rams were never able to overcome that deficit, as Western New England stretched its advantage to six (21-15) later in the frame en route to a 25-17 win.

Suffolk responded with consecutive 25-18 set victories to take a 2-1 lead in the match. With their backs against the wall in the fourth set, the Golden Bears won the first seven points and led 11-1 early. Suffolk was able to pull to within seven (20-13) late, before Western New England closed out the frame with five straight points to force a fifth set.

The Golden Bears carried their momentum into the deciding set, as they built an early 5-1 lead with the help of three Suffolk errors and kills from senior setter Caitlyn Sibiskie (Rockfall, Conn.) and Holmes. The Rams answered with a 7-0 surge, however, to pull ahead 8-5. Western New England got to within one on two occasions late in the set, but the Golden Bears were unable to overcome Suffolk's run earlier in the frame as Fabiano put away the match-sealing kill for the home team.
