Football Debuts at No. 5 in NCAA East Region Rankings

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Western New England University football team is ranked fifth in the first edition of the NCAA East Region Rankings, which were released on Wednesday.

Leading up to the NCAA Tournament, which begins on Saturday, November 23rd, the NCAA releases two Regional Rankings with a top-10 across four regions – North, South, East and West.

The Golden Bears (7-1, 5-0 CCC) debuted at No. 5 in the East Region, behind Salisbury, Wesley, Delaware Valley and Union. Ithaca, Brockport, SUNY Cortland, WPI and Wilkes rounded out the final five spots in the rankings.

Western New England is coming off a 42-31 victory over Endicott College on Saturday that gave the Golden Bears sole possession of first place in the CCC standings. Western New England can clinch its third straight CCC Football title and fifth consecutive conference championship overall with a win at Becker College this Saturday (11/9). The Golden Bears wrap up their regular season slate at home against Husson on Saturday, November 16th.

The next NCAA Regional Rankings will be released on Wednesday, November 13th. The NCAA Tournament field is announced on Sunday, November 17th.
