Ashley Matthews Earns All-CCC Second Team Honors

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (October 29, 2018) – Junior outside hitter Ashley Matthews (Salem, N.H.) of the Western New England University volleyball team has earned All-Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) second team honors, the league office announced on Monday afternoon.

Matthews appeared in 25 of Western New England's 28 matches this season, averaging a team-high 2.67 kills (8th in CCC) and 3.1 points per set. She also contributed 2.39 digs per set, 39 aces (0.40/set), 14 assists and 13 block assists.

Matthews reached the 10-kill mark 12 times and posted a career-high of 17 kills on two occasions in wins at Curry (9/19) and Mount Holyoke (10/5).

She also turned in 11 performances of 10+ digs, including a season-best 17 against Wentworth (10/17) and Emmanuel (10/25).

In 74 career matches and 232 sets, Matthews has recorded 446 kills (1.92/set), 544 digs (2.34/set), 75 service aces (0.32/set), 41 assists (0.18/set) and 30 blocks (0.13/set).

Western New England (9-19), which earned the No. 6 seed in the CCC Tournament, will travel to Newport, R.I. on Tuesday night to take on third-seeded Salve Regina University in the quarterfinal round at 7 p.m.
