Men’s and Women’s Cross-Country Picks Up First Place at Elms College Classic

CHICOPEE, Mass. (September 24, 2022) – The Western New England men's and women's cross-country teams picked up two team wins on Saturday afternoon at the Elms College Blazer Cross Country Classic, as the men's side finished in first place of nine teams, while the WNE women's cross country team finished in first place out of nine teams, as well.

How it Happened:
Western New England women's cross country took first place in the meet for the first time since 2018. WNE saw Keara Mooney take second place in the race of 38 runners in the 6k event in 26:42. Right behind Mooney was Nina Garofalo, who finished in third place in the race at 27:06. WNE's Victoria Burke finished the race in sixth place, completing the race in 28:33.  A slew of Golden Bears would finish strong to the finish line as Davis Farrow finished in 8th place with a time of 30:10. Marissa Crisafulli and Katie Burnham would round out the successful day for WNE, finishing in 16th and 17th place with times of 31:17 and 31:48, respectively.

The Western New England men's cross-country team took five of the top six finishes in Saturday's 8k race when Matt Provost (2nd), Maximillian Fitch (3rd), Joshua Farrell (4th), Nicholas Carlson (5th), and Joshua Bellman (6th) would place for WNE. Provost would finish the race with a time of 29:36. Fitch would complete the race in 30:34, Farrell would finish at 30:59. Carlson and Bellman would finish 19 seconds ahead of one another with Carlson completing with a time of 31:13, while Bellman finished at 31:32. A pair of Golden Bears sophomore's would place 10th and 11th in the race as Corey Pierce (32:22), and John Falco (32:28) would finish just seconds apart from each other. Western New England would see all their runners finish in the top 25, as John Bieszczad and Lance Tomlinson would complete the successful day on the course for the Golden Bears cross-country teams.
