Tyler Hines Receives CCC Scholar-Athlete Recognition
Golden Bears selected as Team Sportsmanship award winner
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (February 19, 2019) – Senior forward Tyler Hines (North Haven, Conn.) of the Western New England University ice hockey team has been named the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Scholar-Athlete of the Year, the league office announced on Tuesday afternoon along with its major award winners and All-CCC selections.
Hines is a mechanical engineering major with a 3.87 cumulative grade point average. He has been named to both the Dean's List and President's List every semester, and he serves as both a Peer Tutor and Teaching Assistant at Western New England.
Hines' Product Development and Innovation Project, a docking mate which assists recreational boaters in docking their boat in a simple and effective matter, was selected to be filed for a provisional patent.
On the ice, Hines was a significant contributor for the Golden Bears in an injury-shortened senior campaign. He ranked seventh on the team with eight points (six goals, two assists) despite playing in just 14 of 25 games. The North Haven, Conn. native scored the game-winning goal in Western New England's 3-2 win over Becker on February 2.
After graduation, Hines has secured a job with Jacobs Vehicle Systems as a Test Engineer.
Hines is the second consecutive Golden Bear to be recognized as the CCC Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year, joining Matt Audet, who earned the honor last season.
Additionally, the Golden Bears were voted by the CCC's head coaches as the conference's Team Sportsmanship award winner.
Western New England finished the 2018-19 campaign with an 8-17 record, including a 3-14 mark in CCC play.
