Yorkey Gets the Equalizer in a 1-1 Draw with Curry

Springfield, Mass. (November 20, 2022) - The Golden Bears returned to action against Curry College after the two teams tied Friday night. The Golden Bears hoped to get back on the win train with the game against Curry on Cub Club Invite Night.

Records:

  • Curry College: 3-2-2 (1-1-2)

How it Happened:

The first period started with an Allison Walker faceoff win. Both teams started the game chasing the puck up and down the ice with few shots on net. Zoe Galanoudis got the first shot on goal for WNE. Curry goaltender Soleil Archambeault made the save. Curry went on the first power play of the night. They had no shots on WNE goaltender Rieley Jessie-Gerelli. WNE would go on the power play soon after. They put two shots on Archambeault that were saved. WNE outshot Curry 17 to five in the first period.

Curry won the second-period faceoff to start play. Curry came out fast with a quick shot that Jessie-Gerelli had to save. WNE went on the penalty kill with almost ten minutes left in the second period. Curry scored with their first opportunity when Margot Oxman won the faceoff and sent the puck to Ali Olorenshaw. Olorenshaw sent the pass to Grayson Goolgasian, who backhanded the puck past Jessie-Gerelli. The score was 1-0 in favor of Curry. Curry went on the penalty kill shortly after the goal. Archambeault made five saves during the penalty kill as WNE kept sending shots on goal. With less than three minutes left in the second period, the Golden Bears were granted another power play. WNE had three shots on goal to start the power play. Then, after Kelly Yorkey had a shot blocked by Tommi Nash, Yorkey got the puck back and sent the puck into the back of the net past Archambeault. WNE equalized the game 1-1. Both teams had 15 shots on goal, with one goal going in for both teams.

The third period started with a Curry faceoff win. WNE went on the power play five minutes into the period. The Golden Bears got another five shots on goal during the power play, but Archambeault was there for the big saves. As the game neared the end of the third period, both teams started making big pushes at the goal. With 6:22 left in the third period, Curry had a two-on-one, and Jessie-Gerelli stretched out the pad for a huge save. Then, with 5:01 left in the third period, Curry had a breakaway that Jessie-Gerelli could stop with a great save. The third period ended with the teams tied at one apiece. The Golden Bears had 13 shots on goal in the third period to Curry's seven.

Overtime started with a Maddie Pope faceoff win. Curry got called for a penalty, and WNE went on the power play. Five shots were on goal for the Golden Bears; however, Archambeault made the stops every time. Overtime ended at 1-1. The overtime saw eight shots from WNE and one from Curry. WNE ended with 53 shots on goal and 28 for Curry. The game ended in a 1-1 tie.

Inside the Crease:

  • The Golden Bears took on the Colonels for the second time in three days.
  • Grayson Gollgasian scored to put Curry up 1-0. Olorenshaw and Oxman were credited with the assist.
  • Kelly Yorkey scored the equalizer at the end of the second period. There was no assist on the play.
  • Soleil Archambeault made 52 saves during the game.
  • Rieley Jessie-Gerelli made 27 saves during the game
  • The Golden Bears and Colonels tied for the second straight game 1-1.
