Pope, Holt Honored by CCC in Weekly Awards

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (January 17, 2023) – Western New England Women's Ice Hockey's Maddie Pope and Maggie Holt picked up CCC awards this week after their contributions to a 3-0 week that included two CCC victories. 

Maddie Pope earned her second CCC Player of the Week award of the season after scoring four goals this week for Western New England. Pope led WNE to a 4-0 win over New England College on January 10, scoring two goals while marking a +3 rating on the ice, taking seven total shots. Pope would follow up that performance by scoring the game winning goal, the only goal of the game, in overtime at Salve Regina University to pick up a key CCC win for the Golden Bears. The Plantation, Florida native finished off the week by scoring the opening goal on home ice in a 4-1 win over Salve Regina to cap off a 3-0 week for WNE. Pope now leads the Commonwealth Coast Conference in points (17), goals (12), and +/- (+18). Pope has scored four game winning goals for the Golden Bears, including two in overtime. 

First Year Maggie Holt earned CCC Rookie of the Week after collecting five assists on the perfect 3-0 week. Holt began the week with three assists and a +3 rating at New England College, including assisting on the eventual game winning goal in the first period. Holt guided the WNE powerplay with an assist, putting together a season high three points in one game. Holt continued with an assist on the game winning goal at Salve Regina University, while also grabbing an assist on WNE's opening goal against the Seahawks at the Olympia Ice Center. Holt leads the Commonwealth Coast Conference in assists on the season, picking up 12 total through 15 games. 

Western New England women's ice hockey is back in action this afternoon, Tuesday, January 17 at 2:00 PM as they visit Rivier University. WNE will play three straight non-conference games as they take on Worcester State this weekend in a home and home series.
