Galanoudis, Tucker Tally in 2-0 Win over Arcadia University

WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (November 22, 2022)  - The Western New England women's ice hockey team won in non-conference action on Tuesday night, defeating the Knights of Arcadia University by a final score of 2-0. 

Records:

  • Western New England: 5-2-2
  • Arcadia University: 0-5-2

How it Happened:
Kayla Ireland got the start for Western New England, looking for her first win in her collegiate career with the Golden Bears. Western New England started to scoring with just under six minutes left in the first period when Zoe Galanoudis put in a rebound from in front of the goal to give the Golden Bears a 1-0 lead. Kelly Yorkey would send a d-to-d pass to Alexa Paoli, who took the wrist shot that was initially saved by Arcadia GK Hannah Bergeron but the rebound was put home by Galanoudis to give WNE the early lead. The Knights would have the shots advantage through one period as Kayla Ireland made all 15 saves she saw while WNE came away with 12 shots in the period. 

The Golden Bears would keep the pressure on the Knights as both teams would go back and forth with early chances, though Western New England would be the only team to capitalize in the period. At the midway point of the second period, Western New England saw Emma Birmingham bring the puck around the net and over to the right offensive circle where she would drop a pass to Maggie Holt, who then sent a seed of a pass over to Maddy Tucker to who a wrist shot right on goal that sailed past the Arcadia defenders and past Bergeron and into the back of the net, picking up her second goal of the season. Holt would register her fifth assist of the season while Birmingham grabbed her second assist of 2022-2023. Kayla Ireland stopped all nine shots in the period for the Golden Bears as Western New England led in shots 11-9 in the second period though Arcadia still held the 26-23 advantage through two periods of play. 

Neither team could come away with a third period goal, sealing the deal for Western New England, who improves to 3-0 in non-conference play. In the period, Western New England would outshoot Arcadia 6-5, as Kayla Ireland made all 29 saves on the night earning her first career win for the Golden Bears.
