Endicott's Two Goals Prove Too Much as Golden Bears Fall 2-1

Endicott's Two Goals Prove Too Much as Golden Bears Fall 2-1

Beverly, Mass. (September 30, 2022) - The Golden Bears hit the road for their third CCC game of the season. They headed out to face Endicott, hoping to continue their winning ways and keep the two-game shutout streak alive. Endicott entered the game looking for their first win since September 14.

Records:

  • Western New England: 5-4-1 (1-1-1)
  • Endicott College: 6-2-3 (1-0-2)

How it Happened:

WNE jumped into the game and was the first to make a move as Danielle McCarthy put up a shot only a minute into the game. However, it was sent wide left and did not worry the Endicott GK, Rosalina Caliri. That would be answered two minutes later by Riley Rischitelli attempting a shot, but it was blocked before it found WNE GK Molly McLaughlin. That is how the beginning of the first half would go. A few shots from each team, with the ball, mostly being sent from one team to the other and staying in the middle half of the field. It wasn't until the 28th minute that a shot was put on goal. It would be by Endicott's Elia Morgan off of a free kick. Morgan booted the ball from around 20 yards out towards the left corner of the net, McLaughlin would dive, but the ball would slide past her and into the back of the net. Endicott was now up 1-0.

Endicott would come back with another shot by Morgan, but it went wide of the net. The rest of the half was more back and forth from the teams with little attacking. That was until the 43rd minute when Lindsay Reidy put a shot up for WNE, hoping to bring life to the side, but it would trouble the goalkeeper. That shot was followed up by two from Endicott, but neither of the shots would trouble Caliri. The first half would end 1-0 with Endicott on top. Endicott had most of the shots in the first half, with eight to WNE's four. They also had the only shot on goal. Endicott had the advantage in corner kicks as well as they were favored two to one. Lastly, WNE had most of the fouls as they were penalized nine times to Endicott's four.

As the teams got back onto the pitch and the whistle started play again, WNE did not fool around with getting their attack started. McCarthy booted a shot at Caliri and made her work for the save, but Caliri would keep the shutout intact for the time being. Endicott would take a little to find their attack, but just like the first half, they would strike on their first shot on the net. In the 52nd minute, Grace Jewett found Morgan Hubert running towards goal. Hubert would take a shot across the goal's face and nestle just inside the left post to double the advantage over WNE. That is Hubert's tenth goal of the season. The team needed something to pick them up, with the Golden Bears down two in the second half. That would come in the form of an Emma French goal. In the 57th minute, McCarthy sent a corner kick into the box, Reidy tried to head the ball towards the net, but it was blocked. The ball fell to Gabby Sansone, who had two goals in WNE's previous game, but her shot was also blocked. The ball would bounce to French, who slotted it home for her first goal of the season. That goal put WNE back to within one with a lot of time left in the game.

Endicott tried to respond immediately as Rischitelli had a header go wide right of the net after a corner kick found her in the WNE penalty box. Some more back-and-forth from the teams followed that header. The ball would not settle with one team. Unfortunately, that meant that WNE would not get another attacking opportunity that led to a shot for the rest of the game. The game ended 2-1, with Endicott being the victor.

The final stat line showed Endicott still had more shots than WNE with a final of 11 shots to eight. Endicott had one save to WNE's zero saves. Endicott had four corners to WNE's three, and WNE had two times the number of fouls as Endicott, with the final stat line reading 16 fouls against WNE and eight against Endicott.
