Women’s Soccer Sweeps Final CCC Weekly Awards

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (November 7, 2022) – The newly claimed CCC Champion Western New England women's soccer team swept this week's weekly awards after winning their first CCC title in program history. 

During championship week, graduate student Allison Bruehwiler scored a goal and added two assists to collect the CCC Championship crown for the first time in her career. Bruehwiler led Western New England all season, playing in all 20 games during 2022, scoring eight goals while collecting five assists, good for 21 points. The Old Saybrook, Connecticut native scored two game winning goals on the year, while taking 59 shots. Over her career with WNE, Bruehwiler scored 27 goals and added 22 assists, good for 76 career points. Bruehwiler took home the CCC Offensive Player of the Week award.

Senior Summer Hathaway netted a goal in the quarterfinal round in a 3-0 win over Wentworth Institute of Technology while holding her opponents to just two goals over three games to clinch the CCC title. Hathaway netted two goals on the season while picking up 39 shots, 17 on goal. The Colchester, Vermont native won the CCC Defensive Player of the Week award. 

After collecting two goals during the championship week, first year Gabby Sansone earned CCC Rookie of the Week by the CCC. Sansone got the scoring started in both the semifinals and championship games, scoring two goals while picking up the eventual game winning goal in the CCC Championships. On the season, Sansone collected six goals and two assists, good for 14 points. 

Western New England draws York (Pa.) College in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, which will take place at a time and date to be announced in the coming days.
