Women’s Cross Country Places Eighth at Keene State Early Bird Invitational
Brooke Townsend paces Golden Bears with 17th place finish (12:38.6)
KEENE, N.H. (August 31, 2019) – The Western New England University women's cross country team placed eighth at the season-opening Keene State College Early Bird Invitational on Saturday.
The Golden Bears compiled 204 points on their way to eighth place in the ten-team field. Springfield College finished first (46), followed by Mount Holyoke (48), Keene State (81) and Suffolk (97). Suffolk's Emily Manfra won the individual title with a time of 11:03.2 on the two-mile course.
Senior Brooke Townsend (Portland, Conn.) led the way for the Golden Bears, finishing 17th in the 69-runner field with a time of 12:38.6.
Junior Samantha Lewis (Goffstown, N.H.) completed the course in 13:23.9, good for 40th place, while freshman Marissa Crisafulli (Weymouth, Mass.) followed in 46th place with a time of 14:02.7.
Western New England's final two scoring runners were senior Edelinda Baptista (Pawtucket, R.I.) and sophomore Gracyn Rothschild-Shea (Wilbraham, Mass.) who placed 50th and 51st, respectively, clocking in with times of 14:14.3 and 14:18.3.
