Townsend Earns All-CCC Honors as Women’s Cross Country Places Sixth at CCC Championship

BRISTOL, R.I. – Senior Brooke Townsend (Portland, Conn.) turned in an All-Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) performance as the Western New England University women's cross country team placed sixth at the CCC Championship on Saturday morning at Colt State Park.

The Golden Bears posted a team score of 149 on their way to sixth place in the eight-team field. Host Roger Williams captured the CCC title with a score of 40, edging out the University of New England by one point (41). Salve Regina (63), Endicott (110) and Gordon (118) rounded out the top five. Roger Williams senior Sarah Mawdsley set the pace with her first place finish in 22:31 on the six-kilometer course.

Townsend received All-Conference recognition for the second straight season after placing 14th in the 98-runner field with a time of 24:02.11.

Junior Samantha Lewis (Goffstown, N.H.) was the second Golden Bear to cross the finish line, clocking in at 25:05.87 on her way to 24th place.

Senior Edelinda Baptista (Pawtucket, R.I.) followed Lewis in 35th place (26:05.54), while freshmen Marissa Crisafulli (Weymouth, Mass.) and Katie Burnham (Monson, Mass.) finished 56th and 62nd, respectively with times of 27:07.28 and 27:25.07.

Western New England wraps up its 2019 season at the NCAA Regional Championship on Saturday, November 16th.
