WNE Field Hockey Opens 17 Game Sleight on September 1

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (July 21, 2023) – The Western New England field hockey team will be back in action on opening weekend this season, playing their first of 17 games at Golden Bear Stadium, as announced in today's schedule release. 

The Golden Bears will entertain Wheaton College (Mass.) in the opening game of the 2023 schedule under the Friday night lights of Golden Bear Stadium on September 1. The blue and gold will hit the road for two straight following their home opener, making stops to Springfield College (September 3, 1:00 PM) and Western Connecticut State University (September 6, 4:00 PM). Western New England will then host five of their next six games, beginning on Saturday, September 9 at 1:00 PM when the Engineers of MIT make a visit to Springfield. Before hosting a four game homestand, Western New England travels to Fitchburg State University for a 7:00 PM game on Wednesday, September 13. 

Conference play opens the four game homestand for the Golden Bears as Gordon College treks to Golden Bear Stadium on Saturday, September 16 for a 6:00 PM start time. WNE will then welcome three non-conference opponents as Westfield State University (September 21), University of Southern Maine (September 23), and Vermont State University Castleton (September 26) will all make their way to Springfield to meet WNE. 

Western New England's first conference road game will end the month of September as the blue and gold will travel to Roger Williams University for a 1:00 PM start time. The month of October opens with a non-conference home game for Western New England when Keene State College visits Springfield for the first time since 2013. WNE will play the next three out of four contests on the road, traveling to University of New England (October 7), Smith College (October 11) and Endicott College (October 20). Nichols College visits Springfield on October 14 for an important CCC matchup. 

WNE will round out their 2023 regular season schedule with two non-conference opponents at Golden Bear Stadium, hosting Mount Holyoke College on October 24 and recently departed CCC member Salve Regina University on October 26. The CCC Quarterfinals are set to begin on Tuesday, October 31 with the semifinals and finals to follow.
