Serisser Scores Tying Goal Against No. 25 RPI

TROY, N.Y. (October 5, 2021) – The Western New England men's soccer team made the trip to Troy, N.Y. to challenge non-conference rival No. 25 RPI under the lights where the game ended in a double overtime tie 1-1.

Records:

  • Western New England: 6-2-2, 2-0-0 CCC
  • RPI: 7-1-2, 3-0-0

How It Happened:

The Engineers took control of the match early earning a corner kick under a minute into play. The Golden Bears quickly moved the ball out of their half and recorded their first shot of the game. In the 11th minute, the Engineers gained momentum and caused a penalty kick. RPI took advantage of the penalty kick netting the goal at 11:19 to take a 1-0 lead. The remainder of the first half the Golden Bears tallied five more shots, three on goals and tallied three penalty corners. The halftime horn rang with the Engineers leading 1-0 after the first 45 minutes of play.

In the second half the Golden Bears upped the pressure by outshooting the Engineers 8-6. The Golden Bears were only able to earn one penalty corner to RPI's four. In the final minute of the game, Western New England made a big play with Chris Allen setting up Malik Serisser to score the tying goal. This sent the game to overtime tied 1-1. Both Western New England and RPI amped up the play not allowing each other many offensive chances. The game went into a second overtime where neither team could convert ending the game in a 1-1 tie.

Inside the Numbers:

  • Colin Waltsak started in goal for the Golden Bears playing 84:19 with two saves while Ryan Suprin finished the game for the Golden Bears with two saves as well.
  • RPI outshot Western New England 21-14 in the game while also leading 11-5 in corner kicks.
  • Malik Serisser earned the one goal for the Golden Bears while Chris Allen earned the assist.
