Women’s Ice Hockey Falls at Home to No. 10 Endicott, 6-0

WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (February 11, 2022) – The Western New England women's ice hockey team was taken down by the number ten team in the country on Friday night from the Olympia Ice Center, the Endicott College Gulls, by a final score of 6-0.

Records:

  • Western New England: 6-13-3 (4-10-1 CCC)
  • No. 10 Endicott College: 15-4-1 (13-2-1 CCC)

How it Happened:
The Golden Bears were unable to generate much of an offensive attack through the 60 minutes of play from the Olympia Ice Center as Endicott College would dominate much of the puck control from the start. WNE and their goaltender Sierra Dennis would hold off the Gulls for the first 12 minutes of the first period until Endicott's Courtney Sullivan converted on a wrap-around goal to give EC the 1-0 lead. Jenna Seibold would pick up the lone assist on the goal. Late in the period a powerplay goal from Jacy Kuhlman would give Endicott the 2-0 lead. Seibold and Jess Burwell would credit assists on the second goal of the game as Endicott took a 2-0 lead into the break. EC would outshoot the Golden Bears 18-2 through one period of play.

Play continued in the favor of the Gulls as they wasted little time in the second period to collect third and fourth goals of the night. Kat Keith would beat Dennis would a wrist shot on assist from Sydney Fascetta and Meaghan Francis to give the Gulls a 3-0 lead. Kellie Popkin would convert an unassisted tally at 8:27 in the second period to give Endicott a 4-0 lead. Just less than three and a half minutes later, Endicott would tally their fifth goal when Sydney Fascetta tallied for the Gulls from Meaghan Francis to give Endicott the 5-0 lead, a lead they took into the locker room after two periods of play. WNE came through with an additional two shots in the period, though could not get much past the Gulls defense.

In the third, Courtney Sullivan would add the only tally in the period, her second of the night to give Endicott a 6-0 lead. Lindsay Goodman and Kaylee Liberty would record assists on the final goal of the night as the Gulls would take down Western New England by a final score of 6-0.
