Golden Bears Compete at Blue Jay Pentathlon
Sheinhait, Elliott and Peterson all finish in top-10
WEST HARTFORD, Conn. (October 29, 2016) – The Western New England University women's swimming team returned to action at the University of Saint Joseph Blue Jay Pentathlon last night at USJ's Bruyette Natatorium.
Top Performers
• Junior Erika Sheinhait (Framingham, Mass.) led the Golden Bears with her second place finish and posted four New England Championship A Cut performances. She finished fourth in the 100-yard backstroke (1:10.39), shaving three seconds off her performance at last year's Pentathlon. Sheinhait also placed seventh in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:21.28), third in the 100-yard butterfly (1:09.73), and fourth in the 100-yard individual medley (1:10.78).
• Freshman Emily Elliott (Cortland, N.Y.) continued the strong start to her Western New England career, finishing eighth with an A Cut performance in the 100-yard individual medley (1:11.46), and fifth in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:18.75).
• Junior Jacquelyn Peterson (Beverly, Mass.) placed tenth overall with her top efforts coming in the 100-yard butterfly (6th, 1:13.42), and 100-yard freestyle (8th, 1:03.35).
Other Notable Performances
• Freshman Brittany Bosma (North Port, Fla.) turned in a third place finish in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:01.89, meeting the B Cut standard for the New England Championships.
•.Junior Janelle Lief (San Jose, Calif.) finished fifth in the 100-yard butterfly (1:12.67), dropping one second off last week's effort in the event.
• Sophomore Megan Empie (Delmar, N.Y.) placed 15th in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:06.11.
