SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (September 27, 2018) – The Western New England University athletic department hosted its 20th Annual Golf Classic on Monday at Twin Hills Country Club in Longmeadow, Mass.

The event, which raised over $68,000 and received contributions from more than 100 companies and individuals, directly benefits Golden Bear athletics and the student-athlete experience at Western New England. Alumni, family, friends and supporters of Western New England athletics were among the 135 golfers that participated.

University trustee Richard Cassata '80 was recognized as the Guest of Honor. Cassata, who serves as the Managing Director of Public Finance at Assured Guaranty Corp., was a member of the Golden Bear baseball team during his time at Western New England.

He has been a longtime supporter of athletics and recreation, with his recent contributions leading to the addition of a functional training room and upgrades to the workout facilities in the Alumni Healthful Living Center. In addition to his support of Western New England Athletics, Rich and his spouse established the Richard M. and Catherine Cassata Scholarship for students in the College of Business.
