Western New England Inducts 2018 Downes Athletic Hall of Fame Class

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (October 22, 2018) – Western New England University inducted three former student-athletes and a contributor into the Downes Athletic Hall of Fame during a ceremony last Friday night at Twin Hills Country Club in Longmeadow, Mass.
Michael O'Connor '03 (men's basketball), Tim Larocca '07 (men's soccer), Katharina Boes '11 (volleyball) and Professor John Anzalotti were honored for their contributions to Western New England athletics and inducted in the 2018 class, the 20th in school history.
The four new members bring the total number of Downes Athletic Hall of Fame inductees to 102. The Hall of Fame was established in 1999 to pay tribute to the outstanding performances of student-athletes, contributors, coaches, administrators and teams that have shaped the rich history of Western New England Athletics. It is named in honor of Arthur William "Red" Downes, a member of the Western New England coaching staff and faculty for 45 years who was inducted in the inaugural 1999 class.
Also recognized on Friday night were Western New England's four major student-athlete award winners from the 2017-18 school year – John Boyle, wrestling (Coca-Cola Male Athlete of the Year), Dorothy O'Neill, women's basketball (Coca-Cola Female Athlete of the Year), John Abbott, golf (Male Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year) & Christina D'Agostino, women's tennis (Female Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year).
