SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (January 17, 2019) – Western New England University placed 84 student-athletes on the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Fall Academic All-Conference Team, which was released today by the league office.

In order to be recognized as a member of the Academic All-Conference Team, an athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.3 (on a 4.0 scale) and must also have attained sophomore academic status.

Western New England's 2018 CCC champion football team led the way for the Golden Bears with 29 honorees, more than any other school that sponsors the sport. Included on the list was junior quarterback Alec Coleman (Arlington, Mass.), the CCC Offensive Player of the Year, and senior running back Ryan Schenck (Farmingdale, N.Y.), the recipient of the CCC's Hal Chalmers award as the league's top senior scholar-athlete. Overall, eight Golden Bears that garnered All-CCC recognition for their performance on the football field were also recognized for their academic excellence.

Outside of football, Western New England had 55 student-athletes receive CCC Academic All-Conference nods. Fifteen members of the men's soccer team landed on the list, including CoSIDA Academic All-District and All-CCC second team selection Bryan Doyle (Southington, Conn.).

The women's soccer team placed 11 student-athletes on the list, while the women's cross country squad had nine, including All-CCC performers Meagan Dias (Ludlow, Mass.) and Brooke Townsend (Portland, Conn.).

The volleyball program compiled the next highest total with six honorees, while women's tennis and field hockey both had five, and men's cross country totaled four.
