Golden Bears Sit 6th and 7th in CCC All-Sports Standings

CCC Release

BIDDEFORD, Maine (December 3, 2021) – The Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) announced the All-Sports Trophy standings after the completion of the fall season where the women earned seventh and the men claimed sixth.

After the conclusion of the fall season, the Endicott women and Gordon men lead this year's races. The Gulls women's programs accumulated 46 points in five sports for an 9.20 average, while the Fighting Scots averaged 9.00 points per sport on the men's side with 18 total points in two sports.

The Golden Bears women earned seventh averaging 5.50 points. Women's cross country earned the Golden Bears three points, field hockey tallied eight points after qualifying for the first round of the CCC playoffs, women's soccer earned 6.5 points after hosting the first round of the CCC playoffs, women's tennis and volleyball both earned five points with tennis qualifying for the first round of the CCC playoffs and volleyball making it to the semifinals as the sixth seed.

The Golden Bears men claimed sixth in the standings averaging 6.00 points. Men's cross country earned three points for Western New England while football earned second in the CCC this season to record nine points. Men's soccer tallied six points after qualifying for the first round of the CCC playoffs.

The All-Sports Trophies have been awarded annually since 2013-14 to the schools that perform the best across the board in league competition. In each sport, points are awarded based on CCC championship and CCC runner-up finishes in the conference tournament followed by the regular season finish of the remaining teams. The CCC Tournament Champion receives 10 points and the CCC Tournament runner-up receives nine points. The regular season finish of the remaining teams is used to determine the number of points awarded to each of those programs. The team with the highest regular-season finish, excluding the Tournament Champion and runner-up, receives eight points with the next team down receiving seven points. The process continues until all teams have been awarded points. In the event of a tie, each tied team receives the average of the sum of the spots for which they are competing. After the total points are calculated, points are then divided by the number of CCC sports that each school sponsors to arrive at an average score.
