Anthony Spooner Recognized as CCC Rookie of the Week
West Bridgewater, Mass. native led Golden Bears at UMass Dartmouth Invitational on Saturday
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (September 17, 2018) – Freshman Anthony Spooner (West Bridgewater, Mass.) of the Western New England University men's cross country team has been named the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Rookie of the Week, the league office announced on Monday.
Spooner led the Golden Bears at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational on Saturday, as he finished 154th in the 295-runner field with a time of 28:44.49 on the eight-kilometer Robert Dowd Course.
As a team, Western New England finished 31st of 41 teams with a score of 867.
Spooner also was the first Golden Bear to cross the finish line in his collegiate debut two weekends ago at the Jim Sheehan Memorial Invitational in Leominster, Mass. He posted a time of 29:44, good for 31st in the 91-runner field.
Western New England will be back in action on Saturday, September 22 at the Elms College Blazer Invitational at Chicopee Memorial State Park.
